Today . . . I am taking a moment to honor the men and women who have died in military service to our country.
I've chosen as my poppy to wear today, Red Poppy by one of my favorite artists, Georgia O'Keefe.
Georgia was 40 years old and living at the Stieglitz family home at Lake George in the Adirondack Mountains when she painted this particular painting in 1927.
One of the longest standing traditions is the wearing of poppies on Memorial Day. The practice of wearing poppies takes its origin from the poem In Flanders Fields, written in 1915 by John McCrae.
What honoring thing will you be doing today? I'll be following Georgia's example and painting.
